I have too many cars. I still want more though....but I can't have more, I have to move out soon, and I've decided that one car is the max until I get my bearings, then I can think about getting another if I have the budget for it. Here's the current fleet:

DD: 1997 Chevrolet S10 Blazer

Auto, 4dr, 4x4, 4.3L V6, 190hp - 250ft-lbs, 305,xxxkms

Kinja'd!!!

Pros: Bulletproof for 13,000kms since I bought it, good for camping, comfy, lots of room for activities, my girlfriend likes trucks, has yet to be confused by anything I've tried to drive it over, was $600, not rusty

Cons: Neeeeds ball joints and probably tie rod ends or steering arms or other important things like that, bad on gas, doesn't have a gas gauge, blower motor only works when it wants to, damaged bumpers and cracked windshield

Project? Summer DD probably: 1982 BMW 320i(s?)

5 speed, 2dr, RWD, 1.8L I4, 101hp - 103ft-lbs, 214,xxxkms

Kinja'd!!!

Pros: Rare (around here) relatively clean, relatively low miles, fun to drive, light, runs well, good on gas, refreshed head 2 years ago, I love BMWs, Recaros, probably an "is" for increased coolness and rarity

Cons: Needs rear subframe mounts, needs a general tuneup, is running kind of hot, passenger floor is all full of water now but not rusty, so it must be a recently developed leak, rust spots on trunk, bubbling on right rear fender, rust in front of left rocker at the jacking point, was $2000

Thing I bought because my friend is moving to Italy: 2002 Mazda Protege5

5 speed, 4dr, FWD, 2.0L I4, 130hp - 135ft-lbs, 216,xxxkms

Kinja'd!!!

Pros: Newish, really good on gas, fantastically maintained, has been reliable in the yearish that my friend has had it, came with winter tires, clean interior, absolutely everything works, first thing I've ever bought that performs like a normal car and has all of its functions, was $500

Cons: FWD, ugly ass rims for the summer tires, I don't like the clutch, it feels flimsy compared to the E21 and the S10, rust and and bodywork galore

TL;DR, I need to have probably one car and don't know which one to choose because I should be practical but I don't want to be

Want it to last? Pick the one with the least or no rust. Rust is pretty much a killer.

sell the 3. It's the least interseting

It's the least interesting but it's probably the most practical....but the mazda will probably be the one to go. It'll get the most money too, I think.....

This is true, the S10 has the least rust, and the E21s looks reparable so far

I would keep the Mazda but that isn't very fun for you. I'd say keep the s10 sell the other 2

The Blazer will be the cheapest to repair, and be the best for moving. That's the one I'd keep.

Sell the Mazda. The S10 will be cheaper to fix, won't rust nearly as fast, and if you ever need the 4WD, you have the 4WD.

Keep the Blazer. All of the cons sound exactly like my old pickup. Mechanically superior, but cracked windshield and faulty blower motor are completely tolerable. Ball joints and tie rods? Things you can do in your driveway if you absolutely have to.

The protoge is nice, but you don't really like it, so don't keep it. And you got it for only 500? You're going to turn a nice profit.

The bimmer is awesome but it is not long for this world, and has way too many issues to be a dd or a backup reliable beater.

Blazer gets the worst fuel economy but it the most useful. I care about fuel economy too but utility, pleasure, and reliability far outweigh mpgs in my book.

Wagon.

Utility, good looks, wagon.

You can get a different clutch/flywheel to fix that. You can get a strut bar front and rear to fix the flimsy issue.

The best part? It's a wagon.

It actually has a front strut bar, the handling is really tight, it's the way the doors and hood close that feel flimsy, that kinda thing. The stuff that makes it light and efficient haha.

I'm trying to like it because it's a wagon, but the problem is, I want this kind of wagon

Kinja'd!!!

But it really does have an impressive amount of room inside for how small it is. if I start to like driving it, it has potential to almost be as good for trips as the Blazer. Better mpgs might outweigh less getting to campsites ability

The profit I could make on the Mazda is a big factor....and while you're right about the bimmer, I may convince myself to keep it as I'll be getting covered parking of some sort when I move out, so I could manage the rust situation

If I happened to wake up in your shoes tomorrow with these three cars in hand... I'd keep the bimmer. It's too cool, and my tercel has way more rust so this is like an upgrade.

Yeah I keep wanting to keep the Blaxerm because I'm used to it, and I drove it on a 10,000km roadtrip...but I feel like I'll regret selling the E21 if I let it go, it was still good deal and it's such cool car.....I mean I already sold my other cool cars, I should probably keep this one haha

The blazer will be the easiest to maintain and won't let you down. I had the ball joints and the other stuff done on my Blazer a few months ago and it was like $600 at a shop.

Sounds like you've talked yourself into a solution. You'll never regret selling the Mazda, the blazer is a dime a dozen (though nice), but you'll probably regret selling that bmw and you'll try to buy another one someday and you'll never find one as good (for 2k anyway).

These are true facts....I may keep the Blazer and the Bimmer though, it's almost not worth it to sell the S10, it was so cheap I may as well drive it as long as it'll drive. I think that's how logic works at least

Yeah! I just didn't have the time (or will) to do it myself. Everything on it should be pretty easy to fix too.

My policy is if you have the space and don't let your area look like the remains of a car fire, keep them! Just not the Mazda ;)

it should be...I've done most work on BMWs, so everything seems comically large haha, but it should be manageable. I just haven't had to of anything so far other than a new axle, which was cheap enough I didn't bother trying it myself. My main problem is no garage and lots and lots of rain

1. Sell BMW and Mazda.

2. Use profits to keep Blazer going

3. Invest the rest in retirement fund
